IntroductionThere are two ways to use this site:You can display the timeline and see in what order each mission took place and also bring up details about that mission. Alternatively if you are looking for something specific you can use the index of entries which allows you to jump straight to a mission. The index also has biographies on some of the key people involved in the space program which are not accessible directly from the timeline. Bringing Up The TimelineWhen you click on the link to view the timeline you will be presented with a lot of options. To display every space mission that has ever occurred would be a very large web page and would not be viewable by people with slow internet connections. As an alternative there are several options that allow you to choose what missions you wish to be displayed.
Changing Your Options
When you are viewing the timeline, if you want to change the options at any time this can be done by moving the mouse over to the left side of the screen which will bring out the menu panel showing the options you chose.
The panel will display the current display type and the date range you are viewing. These options can be changed as before and clicking the "View Timeline" button will redisplay the timeline with your new choices. The link at the top of the panel will return you to the main page of this site. If for any reason the pop out menu does not appear at the left of your window then hit the refresh button and it should reappear.
Navigating The Index
The index works like any index in a book with every entry is listed alphabetically. If an entry for a person covers more than one mission then they will appear as their own biographical entry and also as a sub entry for each mission they flew. For example, Alan Shephard flew in both the Mercury missions and Apollo missions. As a result in the index he will appear listed as an individual entry but also as sub entries for Freedom 7 and Apollo XIV as shown below.
It is also possible to get a chronological index of every mission but be aware that this will not list any biographies of astronauts or any news related entries just the launched missions.
Problems?
If you have any problems displaying a page or the timeline then send me an email to cresswga@gmail.com letting me know what the problem was. Please provide as much information as possible to help me in fixing the problem. For example, what browser and operating system you were using, what it was you were trying to do and what did/did not happen as a result
