ALAN RICH ... NASA - JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) Ambassador

COOL STUFF: THE VEHICLE ASSEMBLY BUILDING (VAB)
This is one HONKING HUGE building ! You could cram FOUR Empire State Buildings inside !
Twice as much space inside as the Pentagon. You could fit a Major League basaball
stadium on the ROOF (including room for parking).
The public hasn't been allowed in here for many years, and neither have most NASA employees.
So I feel very lucky that I was allowed in last summer while at Cape Canaveral with JPL's
Dr. Gil Yanow for our Genesis spacecraft launch. The launch of Genesis was delayed for a
few days due to technical bugs... this was a good thing... we had nothing to do but
loiter around in places like this! An AWESOME experience!
Originally built for assembly of the Saturn / Apollo moon missions, the Space Shuttle
is assembled in here today.
SPOOKY: Vultures constantly circle outside, playing in the
thermals the building creates just like a mountain.
That American flag you see painted
on the side of the building is so
huge it took 6,000 gallons of paint.
